The Popular Show Campaign 4 Introduces the Soldiers Party
Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces expanding in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
The latest chapter ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the premier party of adventurers who will split off from the main group to begin their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.
This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where non-violent answers are scarce.
Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear unsuited, but the events of the latest installment make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
First, the group knows exactly where to go next after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.
A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—used the enemy for his own means, entering the secret base, assaulting the character, and taking all the powerful objects to auction.
The antagonist then cleared his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each member has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:
- The rogue, as the companion and best friend, seeks retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous place.
- Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- However, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the group reach areas they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, Teor swore a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are sought by the authorities that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and The cleric defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- The target is marked for death by the family.
This means them little choice but to journey toward the northern region in search of the traitor.
Future Episodes
Based on episode three’s Cooldown, we discover that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the remaining eight cast members to round up the Explorers and Planners parties.
Fans can expect learning which players will be assigned to which table in the season’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
